Paper, Print, Textiles & Fibres

Paper, print and textile industries require precise surface characterization to ensure end-product quality: coating uniformity, fiber texture, ink or adhesive distribution. Altimet provides non-contact optical measurement solutions adapted to flexible, fibrous and laminated materials where traditional contact methods fall short.

Drawing on our expertise in 3D topography and surface roughness analysis, we address both R&D needs and production quality control requirements.

Optical Metrology for Paper, Print and Textile Industries

Fibrous, coated or printed materials present complex surfaces that contact instruments struggle to characterize without deforming them. AltiSurf© systems enable detailed non-contact topographic analysis on fragile or open-texture substrates.

Coated Paper — Roughness and Surface Finish

The quality of coated paper depends largely on its surface condition. Our instruments measure surface roughness in accordance with ISO 25178, enabling characterization of coating uniformity, substrate flatness and texture variations across the entire surface. This data is essential for optimizing coating processes and ensuring consistent print results.

Offset Printing — Ink Deposit Characterization

In offset printing, controlling ink deposition directly affects color fidelity and print durability. Altimet enables measurement of the volume of material deposited on the substrate, mapping of ink distribution across the surface, and analysis of process parameter variations — a valuable tool for machine calibration and consumable quality control.

Paper Filters — Pore Measurement and Observation

The performance of a paper filter depends directly on the geometry of its pores. Non-contact 3D topography measures the size, distribution and regularity of filter openings without altering the fragile structure of the material — critical analyses for qualifying filters in automotive, medical or industrial applications.

Textiles & Fibres — Weave and Texture Analysis

Weave analysis, fiber orientation and surface texture directionality are made possible by high-resolution optical topography. Altimet quantifies surface anisotropy, evaluates weave regularity and detects structural defects invisible to the naked eye — key analyses for technical textiles, automotive and aerospace applications.

Adhesive Deposits on Textiles — Topographic Characterization

The distribution of adhesive dots on a textile support is a critical parameter for bonding or heat-sealing applications. Our instruments map deposit topography, measure height, area and volume, and verify distribution uniformity — for full process control of adhesive application.

Varnish and Surface Treatment Comparison

Comparing the effect of different varnishes or treatments on the same substrate is made possible through multi-zone topographic measurement. Altimet objectively characterizes surface condition variations induced by each treatment, evaluates thickness and uniformity, and helps select the formulation best suited to functional or aesthetic requirements.
